There is No Slave Class!
(Matthew 25:45–51, Luke 12:35-48)
The JW Organization wrongly used a teaching parable meant for all believers to form a special ruling class!
By Nab Bebawy
How unusual for an organization to form a major doctrine from a parable!
The “Faithful Servant” is mentioned in a parable—a teaching story— to show that all servants of Jesus Christ are expected to faithfully discharge their spiritual duties to Him as their Master by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in them.
Jesus never meant a special “Slave Class”! Forming classes or having class distinction is a no-no among those who are true believers.
"He made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith." (Acts 15:9 ESV)
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." (Gal 3:28 ESV)
The ‘Slave Class’ doctrine of the JW organization was most likely devised to control and elevate one group above another. Let me prove to you that it’s all about power and control:
The organization has always taught that the ‘Faithful Slave Class’ included all living anointed ones. Then, a few years ago, they arbitrarily altered the meaning and the structure of their ‘Slave Class’. It went from including all anointed to only the Governing Body members who are now in charge of EVERYTHING! To add insult to injury, they called the change a new light! It’s anything but light!
The Contextual Meaning of the Parable
Jesus Christ expects all His disciples to be faithful and watchful, caring for His spiritual household when He comes to inspect at any time during this age (the church age). In the parable, Christ contrasts the attitude of the faithful servant with the unfaithful one. Ironically, the organization's leadership seems to emulate the “unfaithful servant” whose place is with the “hypocrites” and “unbelievers”.
You can see from the verses below that Jesus never spoke of any special class. Quite the opposite, He urged all believers saying:
“The greatest among you [plural] will be your servant.” (Matt 23:11).
“Whoever [anyone] wants to become great among you must be your servant.” (Matt 20:26)
The 'Faithful Servant' represents all true believers, past, present, and future [not a special class within]. It is anyone who follows Jesus Christ and faithfully discharges his or her spiritual duties to the Master.
